Pyrenees Atlantiques Accommodation

 Overlooking the village

 and the

Valley of Baretous

About us

We are John Johnson & Margaret Johnson (Was Cubitt) both born and bred in Nottingham, 1960 we met each other at Nottingham Ice stadium and married 1963 at King's Hall St Annswell Road.

Margaret started her working life as a hairdresser, we bought the Hairdressing shop just after we got married and Margaret continued hairdressing until our son Richard arrived.

I left B&K.Thomas after 6 years with a short period at Lady Bay Garage then went to ROF/N on inspection (DIA) on tank guns, after 2 years at the Gun Factory I decided to go back into the motor trade working for myself R.W.Motors on Northgate, New Basford.

We bought the properties next to the garage expecting to expand but the council wouldn't let us and we ended up building shops which we couldn't let so Margaret & I ended up running some of the shops ourselves with the help of our second son Stuart.

2000 we left Stuart running the shops and the garage we let out, Margaret & I moved to Norfolk and set up a B&B in Bacton, as we liked the B&B trade so we decided to sell the shops and buy a place in France with Stuart helping.

In the past, I played a lot of darts, playing for Wolds hotel 1960s, Royal Oak at Watnall and another Pub on Carlton road, while I was working at the ROF/N both of us joined the rifle club, Margaret was ladies club champion for many years also she shot for the Notts County team and the ladies team did win the Mercia Cup.

I did shoot for the county team but I wasn't always picked although I was never counted out. (5 worst scores were counted out on an inter-county shoot)

Also, I played a lot of squash and played for Lumb Farm 5th team, not that good or fit but I did play my last came at 62 beating a young lady who was a regional youth champion.

We are still here in the Pyrenees after 15 years

Lae de Haut overlooks the village of Aramits and offers a remarkable view of the Pyrenees over the Valley of Baretous and the ski station of La Pierre Ste Martin in the back ground. No traffic noise as there is only one house beyond us on our lane.

Lae de Haut is only 15 miles from Spain so you can discover two countries, our suggested routes take you over the Pyrenees into Spain, returns you via another mountain pass and valley so you do not repeat the views so you can enjoy Tapas in Spain and Menu of the day in France.

Also, we can suggest restaurant on your days out as this is what we do through winter, trying out restaurants, it is a shame to miss out on local cuisine
